LAKE STATION: River Forest Junior High student faces intimidation charge
Times Staff Report
LAKE STATION | Police filed intimidation charges this week against a 14-year-old River Forest Junior High School student accused of sending death threats to a classmate on her MySpace Web site.
The boy was taken Tuesday night to the Lake County Juvenile Center after he was questioned by police, Lake Station Police Chief Mike Stills said.
He said the boy admitted sending the messages, which said he was going to bring a knife to school and cut the victim's throat, as well as hurt her family and burn down their house.
The boy told police he wasn't going to act upon the threats, and made them out of anger because of a fight he had with the victim, Stills said.
Stills said even though the boy claimed he wasn't going to act upon the threats, the department had to take them seriously because of previous issues with threats made through the MySpace Web site.
"With kids these days, you never know anymore," Stills said.
