CROWN POINT | Lake Criminal Court Judge Diane Ross Boswell sentenced an East Chicago day-care provider to six years in prison Monday in the scalding of a toddler.

A jury convicted Betris Clark, 44, of neglect of a dependent on June 20.

Deputy Prosecutor Armando Salinas said Clark continued to care for other children while out on bond in the case. Clark ran a license-exempt day care in her home on Homerlee Avenue. On June 9, 2006, a toddler in her care suffered severe burns on his groin area. The child's mother told the court he still suffers numbness in the area and emotional problems.
