Police: Victim beat with bat by as many as 25 people
HOBART | A 21-year-old Hobart man was beaten so severely with a baseball bat that he couldn't tell police about the details of the crime.
The victim was transported to St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart after police were called to his home early Saturday, Lt. Dave Evans said Monday.
"He was very confused and wasn't sure what was going on," Evans said. "They really did a number on him. He was beaten pretty severely."
The victim reportedly received numerous injuries, including swelling around his eyes and numerous bumps and bruises to his head, Evans said.
St. Mary Medical Center personnel confirmed Monday he was in the intensive care unit of the hospital. A condition report wasn't available.
Police are looking into what sparked the incident and who beat the man with a baseball bat, which was recovered at the scene, Evans said.
Evans said it's thought the victim, who may have been attending a local party, was possibly followed home by up to 25 people in three different vehicles, according to information police have pieced together from talking to the man's dad and brother.
"We're not sure at this point what initiated the beating or where he had been prior to the incident," Evans said.
