Gift cards | Lansing

LARC, which serves people with developmental disabilities, conducts a SCRIP program on a monthly basis. This is a program where participants purchase gift cards to gas stations, restaurants and retail locations and LARC receives a percentage of the sale as profit to be used as a fundraiser. The last order before Christmas will need to be delivered to LARC by Dec. 5.

Concert | South Holland

A concert is at 7:30 tonight at Kindig Performing Arts Center, 15800 State St. It's featuring the South Suburban College Voices, directed by Al Jackson; the Jazz Combo and Jazz Band II, directed by Fred Miller; and the Percussion Ensemble, directed by Glenn Ellison. Donations to music scholarship funds will be accepted.

Holiday concert | Steger

Bloom Township High School District 206 music students will present a holiday concert at 7 tonight in the Bloom Trail High School auditorium. The concert will feature the District 206 concert bands, the concert choir and the Gospel choir. More

than 150 students will participate in the musical event. A variety of seasonal and holiday tunes will be performed, according to Benjamin Helton, District 206 director of bands. The concert band's program includes "Sleigh Ride" by Leroy Anderson and

"Christmas Variants," a song based on the Advent chant "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" by Elliot Del Borgo, Helton

said. The choirs will sing favorite carols and winter tunes such as "Welcome the Holiday" and "Jingle Celebration."

Admission will be $3 for adults and $2 for students with ID and for senior citizens. Admission will be

free with the donation of two canned goods per person; the food will be distributed to a local shelter.

Craft show | Lansing

Lansing Christian School's craft bazaar will be held Dec. 6 at the school, 3660 Randolph St.

Madrigal dinner | Chicago Heights

Marian Catholic High School Fine Arts Department will present its sixth annual Madrigal Dinner Dec. 5 to 6 in the Band Room.

The popular event begins at 6:30 p.m. each night and $25 tickets include a full dinner and copy of the Marian Madrigal Singers CD. All orders must be paid in full at the time reservations are made.

Guitar recital | South Holland

Christmas play | Chicago Heights

The Drama Group will present "Miracle on 34th Street," the play based on Valentine Davies' 1947 novel. Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5, 6, 12 and 13 and 2 p.m. Dec. 7 and 14 at the Studio Building, 330 W. 202nd St. Tickets are $15 for adults and $14 for seniors and students.

Nonperishable food items will be accepted for the St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry. At 7 p.m. Dec. 12, there will be a Mass to honor the Blessed Mother. It will include mariachis, presentation of roses, dancers and a brief reenactment. Afterward there will be a celebration in the cafeteria. All are welcome. CHRISTMAS BAZAAR | St. John

The Home & School Association will hold its first Christmas Bazaar from 3 to 9 p.m. Dec. 4 at the St. John the Evangelist School gymnasium, 9400 U.S. 41. Shoppers will have a range of holiday gifts to choose from, including handmade crafts, candles, jewelry, children and women's clothes, books, custom-made cards and scrapbooks and baked goods. Santa Claus will visit with children from 4 to 8 p.m. No admission fee, however, shoppers are asked to bring a nonperishable food item to support the school's Christmas food drive. Baby-sitting is available.

CHECK THE SKY | Lowell

Calumet Astronomical Society hosts free public stargazing open house from 7 to 10 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Conway Observatory, 19000 Chase St., southeast of Buckley Homestead County Park. Volunteers will guide visitors in the use of telescopes and astronomical binoculars to observe the majesty of the skies. Programs are dependent on cloud cover and weather conditions. Turn south from Ind. 2 on Hendricks St. to Belshaw Road, then turn left (east) to the first right turn, Chase St., and go one mile south. Dress for outdoor weather. Families are welcome, but must keep a watch on small children in the dark. Standard flashlights are prohibited, but create a red filter light by placing a red balloon over a standard flashlight.
