Police don't find evidence of foul play
Times staff report
HOBART | A 53-year-old woman was found dead in her Amber Manor apartment Sunday afternoon.
Hobart police Lt. Leo Finnerty said the woman was discovered about 1:30 p.m.
The woman was found on her living room couch in her apartment in the 300 block of Ruta Drive, according to the Lake County coroner's office. A spokesman for the coroner's office said the woman had been dead for at least a week and was in the advanced stages of decomposition.
A neighbor in the building alerted police to a smell coming from the apartment, the spokesman said.
Preliminary autopsy reports did not indicate a cause of death, and officials are awaiting a toxicology report.
Finnerty said the apartment was locked from the inside and it did not seem as if foul play was involved.
The coroner's office is withholding the woman's name pending notification of family.
