MOROCCO | Rescue workers plucked a fisherman from frigid waters after he fell through the ice Saturday at Willow Slough Fish and Wildlife Area.
Don Pritchard, 46, of Mount Ayr, was treated for hypothermia at Jasper County Hospital.
Pritchard was fishing in J. C. Murphy Lake when the ice broke through about 11 a.m., according to Indiana Conservation Officer Shawn Brown.
Other people fishing nearby heard Pritchard's screams and tried to rescue him. Two of them fell through the ice but were able to pull themselves to safety.
Rescue workers from the Morocco Fire Department and the Lake Township Fire Rescue team used throw ropes to pull Pritchard from the lake shortly after they arrived at the scene.
Pritchard spent about 30 minutes in the water, Brown said. He was conscious and talking to emergency medical workers at the scene, Brown said.
