A Mother's Day Champagne Brunch will be held May 11 at Hobart Elks Lodge 1152, 3580 W. 61st Ave. Seating will be every half hour from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Menu includes carved roast beef and ham, Swedish meatballs, fried chicken, seafood Alfredo, vegetables, biscuits and gravy, sausage, scrambled eggs, bacon, French toast, salad bar, shrimp cocktail, fresh fruit, cheeses, strudel, bread pudding apple crisp and more. CAREGIVER SUPPORT | Merrillville
Harbor Light Hospice has partnered with Towne Centre to offer a Family Caregiver Support Group that meets at 6 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month in the Towne Centre Independent Living center, 7250 Arthur Blvd., to provide monthly education and support to caregivers and is open to the community. Facilitator is Tami Shires from Harbor Light Hospice, a Licensed Social Worker who will promote discussion amongst the group members. "Help for Veterans" is the topic May 13; and "Reminiscent Therapy" is the topic June 10. There is no charge however, an RSVP is requested since light refreshments will be served.

MOVIE MATINEE | DeMotte
"Ali" is the title of the free Senior Movie Matinee at 1:30 p.m. May 15 at the DeMotte Library, 901 Birch St. SW. This is the biopic about the life and career of boxer Muhammed Ali, who became one of the best-known professional athletes worldwide. It features Will Smith, Jon Voight and Jamie Foxx. YOUTH COUNCIL | Cedar Lake
The Cedar Lake Youth Council, whose members learn about local government and work toward improvements in the community, welcomes all junior and senior high school students as members. There are nine voting members, one from each political precinct in the town and one each from Hanover and Center townships outside the town limits. Nonvoting members are also welcome. The group meets at 6 p.m. May 18 and the third Sunday of each month and is led by Parks Superintendent Mary Joan Dickson and Town Council member Robert Carnahan. Topics include roadside cleanup recap, paper retriever, summer concert and fundraisers for a skateboard park.

NWI ACORN is accepting applications from low- to moderate-income families facing foreclosure at South Lake County Community Services, 1450 E. Joliet St. Families must provide original loan documents, recent tax returns, monthly budget, bank statements, etc. Canvassers are needed to distribute information concerning foreclosure assistance in Crown Point, Dyer, Hammond and East Chicago.

PANTRY NEEDS FOOD | Hobart
Hobart Food Pantry is in need of nonperishable food items to feed the 76 families that now rely on the food pantry each week, up from 45 at this time last year. The shelves are practically bare. Churches, schools, and individuals are welcome to donate items. Citizens can drop off items at the pantry, 200 S. Hobart Road, or call for more information and hours of operation.

SENIOR SERVICES | Merrillville
Merrillville Clerk Treasurer Eugene M. Guernsey has created a new department within the clerk treasurer's offices at the Merrillville Town Complex, 7820 Broadway. Senior Services, a nonprofit service and an all-volunteer operation, will provide information, literature and guidance to Merrillville seniors. Information on senior health issues, home care services and other resources geared toward senior lifestyles is available.

CRISIS CENTER | Gary
Crisis Center is recruiting youth and adult volunteers for five of its seven programs. Crisis Contact needs adults to answer the information and referral and depression and suicide hotline; Reassurance Contact needs adults who make wellness phone check calls to seniors, people with disabilities and homebound residents; Teen Court needs youth 10 to 17 years old to serve as officers on the Lake County youth court; Youth As Resources needs youths 13 and older to serve on a fun advisory board that awards mini-grants to other youth groups; and Alternative House needs an adult volunteer arts and crafts teacher for youths at the emergency center. INDY 500 FINALS | Indianapolis

BAND SHOWCASE | Schererville
The Schererville Parks Department is accepting applications for the Celebrate Schererville local band showcase. Local bands will perform a 30-minute set on stage to compete for top three prizes. Interested bands must complete applications and supply a music demo. The festival is June 18 to 22.

RUMMAGE SALE | Highland
First Christian Reformed Church of Highland will have a rummage and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 15 at 8910 Grace St. Children and adult clothes, housewares, furniture and miscellaneous items will be sold. An aluminum can/scrap metal drive also is planned that day. Proceeds will help send a team to do needed work in Guatemala at a Kids Alive International facility for needy children as well as provide Bible school for them during the week they will be there.

One team of 40 will be going to work with Rio Bravo Ministries in Renosya, Mexico, June 20-26, and another 50-member team will be working with three different Chicago ministries, June 30- July 3.

Raise the Roof car was is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 17 in the lot at St. John Bosco Church, 7113 Columbia Ave. Cars will be washed for $6 and trucks and vans will be washed for $8.
