CROWN POINT | A Griffith man was convicted Thursday of burglarizing a Hammond business during half-time of the Bears -Colts Super Bowl game last year, according to the Lake County prosecutor's office.
A Lake Criminal Court jury deliberated about two hours before finding Nathaniel Bradley, 37, guilty of burglary and criminal trespass.
Bradley broke into L & S Electric Feb. 4, 2007, during half-time of the Super Bowl, prosecutors said. After the burglar alarm was activated, officers took Bradley and codefendant, Henry Sistrunk, 37, of Kankakee, Ill ., into custody.
Sistrunk, who was the driver, pleaded guilty and was sentenced May 28 to six years in prison, records show.
Sistrunk testified on Bradley's behalf at the trial, trying to take blame for the burglary. There were footprints found in the snow by the business from size 9.5 boots which matched the boots Bradley was wearing when he was apprehended.
Sistrunk claimed the two men switched shoes and that he can wear multiple sizes. He said because of bad arches he could wear any size from a 9.5 to size 22. While on the stand, Sistrunk was impeached with a prior murder conviction in Illinois, where he received a 20-year sentence and other theft-related convictions, according to the prosecutor's office.
Bradley faces a maximum eight years in prison. He will be sentenced July 16, records show.
