Dinner meeting scheduled

The annual dinner meeting of the Wanatah Area Chamber of Commerce begins with registration at 6 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Koselke-Mayfield American Legion Post 403 in Wanatah. dinner is at 6:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be LaPorte County Sheriff Mike Mollenhauer. Reservations should be to David Kaiser at (219) 733-9651. The first meeting of the 2008 Scarecrow Committee is set for April 10 and is tentatively set at the town hall at 7 p.m. It will be preceded by a chamber meeting at 6:30 p.m.

scholarship

Applications are being accepted for the Clinton Township Alumni Association Scholarship. This scholarship is open to anyone who attended the former Clinton Township School or their children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren.

The scholarship was established in 1989 and $19,000 in scholarships have been given to students. The deadline for applications is March 14.

To be eligible the applicant must be enrolled in a college, university, trade school or vocational school. The money will be paid to the successful applicant upon completion of the fall tern, 2008.

The winner (winners) will be recognized at the alumni banquet to be held May 10 at Cheers Banquet Hall in Kingsbury.

Council news

The Wanatah Town Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the town hall. The meeting is open to the public.

School board

The South Central School board will have an executive session at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday for collective bargaining.

Open swim is 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students pay $1 and adults, $2. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Elementary activity pictures will be taken Thursday. Please see your student has his or her uniform for the pictures.

Historical Society

The Wanatah Historical Society will meet at 10 .a.m. Saturday in the Wanatah Town Hall. The meeting is open to anyone interested in early Wanatah history.

South central news

South Central PTO requests donations for a planned silent auction. Classes asked to help include kindergarten, anything chocolate; first grade, board games, movies, popcorn; second grade, anything connected to sports; third grade, gift cards, any amount from anywhere; fourth grade, kitchen items, cake mix, hot pad; fifth grade, 'man' items hunting, fishing, tools.; sixth grade, munchie items, chips, popcorn pop.
