SCHERERVILLE

Town seeks residents for boards, commissions

The Schererville Town Council is accepting applications for vacancies on the Board of Zoning Appeals, Park Board, Plan Commission and Police Commission.

Applications are available between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the administration office of Schererville Town Hall, 10 E. Joliet St.

Applications must be returned to the administration office on or before Friday.

HIGHLAND

Sanitary Board meets in special session Tuesday

The Highland Sanitary Board meets in special session at 7 p.m. Tuesday to introduce a resolution modifying user fees for the operation, maintenance and management of the Highland Sanitary District.

The commissioners meet first in study session at 6:30 p.m. The meeting is at Town Hall, 3333 Ridge Road.

WHITING

School Board meets in special session

The Whiting School Board meets in a special open session at 6 p.m. Monday on the second floor of the Administration Building, 1500 Center St., Whiting.

And the date of the regular December meeting has been changed from Dec. 24 to Dec. 17. That meeting is at 6 p.m. at the Administration Center. The board will meet in executive session at 5:30 p.m., prior to the meeting, and after the meeting at 7:30 p.m.

HAMMOND

City hosts seniors holiday party Dec. 12

Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr., the Hammond Parks and Recreation Department and the Department of Planing and Development invite all area seniors 55 and older to the Senior Only Holiday Party.

It's from noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 12 at the Hammond Civic Center, 5825 S. Sohl Ave. There will be a live band, dancing, snacks, nonalcoholic beverages and door prizes. The cost is $5 a ticket. Register by calling (219) 853-6378 or visit the Hammond Civic Center business office between 7 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. Monday through Friday.

MUNSTER

Motorcyclists ride for Toys for Tots

Motorcyclists from across Indiana and Illinois will gather this morning for the 30th annual Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade, one of the largest motorcycle rides in the United State.

Local motorcyclists will meet at 8 a.m. at Calumet Harley-Davidson on Calumet Avenue just north of Main Street. The dealership also is a toy drop-off spot for anyone interested in donating a new, unwrapped toy for a boy or girl.

The main ride lines up at Dan Ryan Woods, 85th and Western Avenue, on the South Side of Chicago and proceeds northbound through the city to the USMC Armory, on Foster and California avenues, on the North Side of Chicago.
