Three males were arrested in Gary Thursday afternoon after leading police on a pursuit that began in Illinois.

The suspects evaded police for at least 10 minutes before being arrested on the Indiana Toll Road eastbound between Cline Avenue and Grant Street, according to Trooper Jerry George with Indiana State Police for the Toll Road. Calumet City Police began the pursuit of in the city through Chicago and onto the Toll Road. The offending vehicle was a dark-colored Chevrolet Caprice.

The chase began before 2:50 p.m. and ended at 3:03 p.m. with the three suspects being taken into custody, George said.

Calumet City Police Cmdr. Dan Zorzi didn't reveal why the suspects were being pursued because the investigation into the incident is still in its preliminary stages. Chicago and Illinois State Police were contacted about the chase, but neither assisted in the stop and arrest, George said.

One of the suspects was a juvenile.

The suspects' identities were not available Thursday afternoon. The reason for the chase and whether injuries were suffered in the incident weren't immediately known.

George said from all the information gathered on scene from Toll Road police, there was no report of gunfire erupting during or after the stop.

The eastbound lanes of the Toll Road near the incident were shut down between about 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. while police conducted their investigation. Traffic in the area remained slow after the roads were reopened.

A tow truck had difficulty reaching the offending vehicle because of the traffic already in the area.
