PORTER | Heavy rains overnight prompted Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore officials to issue swim advisories Thursday for Mount Baldy, Central, Lake View and Dunbar beaches.
Test results on water samples taken Wednesday indicated all beaches were within safe levels for E.coli bacteria. However, the flow of water from streams and ditches into Lake Michigan increased the risk of illness to swimmers.
The National Lakeshore is conducting additional testing to determine if bacteria levels at the affected beaches are within water quality standards.
Also Thursday, a swimming advisory was issued for Ogden Dunes and a rip current advisory was issued for West Beach.
