Interviews to fill Merrillville position set to begin next month, official says
MERRILLVILLE | Town Council President Ron Widing said the town still is receiving applications from people interested in serving as the next town manager, and the town will continue to advertise the position until the end of the month.
He said town officials will then be able to start interviewing candidates.
Widing said there have been no major problems since former Town Manager Tim Brown left the position Aug. 1 to serve as the executive director of the Northwest Indiana Regional Bus Authority.
Widing said town employees are doing their part to lend a hand when needed.
Town Councilman Richard Hardaway said councilmen who also serve as chairmen of the different town committees have handled any issues relating to their committees.
Hardaway said he doesn't want to rush into a decision so the town can find the best qualified person to serve as town manager.
"It may take a little longer than anticipated," Hardaway said.
Officials have said they are seeking a replacement who has a background in municipal government and experience working with budgets and different municipal departments.
Merrillville, like other communities, is suffering from financial difficulties, according to town officials, and the town manager also will work with the Town Council and clerk-treasurer to find revenue sources.
