About Jeff:

Crown Point resident. Employed by the City of Crown Point for seven years.

Accomplishments: Jeff Knesek, laborer for city of Crown Point Public Works Utilities, was honored as June's Employee of the Month for going above and beyond his regular work duties. On March 7 a resident had her front door window broken during a Police Department wellness check, and Knesek was sent out to evaluate the damage and make necessary repairs the next work day. Instead, he went at the end of his shift, evaluated the situation and made the repairs with his own materials. "It wasn't out of my way and I don't mind helping people out, especially those that can't do something themselves or the elderly," he said. "I would have helped even if I didn't work for the city." Knesek received an honorary plaque to be hung in City Hall, a personalized certificate from Mayor David Uran and a $25 gift certificate. "I felt so honored," he said. "This is a great job. It's something different every day, and I love everyone I work with." Knesek handles water, sewer and irrigation inspections for

the city and responds to a number of service calls daily.

Personal hero: "My father, Gary Knesek. He taught me everything I know and my work ethic. My parents are good people."

What I read: "I like to read but really don't. I would rather be busy."

Advice: Knesek quoted a line from "Shawshank Redemption": "Get busy living or get busy dying."

Best thing about my job: "Every day is different. I never know what I'm going to do next."

People might be surprised to know: "I love music - rock 'n' roll."
