HAMMOND | Two men are set to appear in Hammond federal court Wednesday after allegedly forcing a girl into a six-month, cross-country nightmare of sexual slavery, forced labor and beatings.

The girl was reunited with her parents in Logansport, Ind., in October.

During an encounter in Buffalo, N.Y., defendants Yan Niang Soe, 22, and Johnathan Sullivan offered to take the victim to a party, promising they would return her to school in Buffalo, according to federal court papers based on an FBI investigation.

The men instead drove the girl from New York to Indiana where she was held in apartments in Fort Wayne and Logansport, pushed into housework, forced to change her identity, imprisoned in a room without food, beaten and raped, court records allege.

Although Soe and Sullivan are charged in New York federal court with holding the girl for forced labor, they face court appearances today in Hammond. Soe is slated for an initial hearing, and Sullivan has requested a hearing to determine probable cause.

Neither federal authorities nor the men's appointed attorney were available for comment on the Veterans Day holiday Tuesday. The Cass County prosecutor's office was not open Tuesday, so authorities there could not comment on possible charges in the alleged Logansport crimes.

According to the FBI agent's statement, Soe met the girl, then an eighth-grader, at a party in March 2007. For months, Soe pursued a relationship with the girl.

On April 8, Soe and Sullivan invited the girl to a party in Fort Wayne, telling her they would return her to school, the agent alleges. The girl, a naturalized immigrant, fell asleep in the car, unaware that Fort Wayne is in Indiana. As she saw signs for Pennsylvania, then Ohio, she screamed, and Soe beat her and pinned her in the car, the FBI alleges.

The men and Sullivan's wife then moved into an apartment in Fort Wayne.

The girl was beaten and forced to watch Sullivan's children in the home and also was locked in a room for two days without food, the FBI alleges.

The group moved next to Logansport, where the men told the girl she would be jailed as a runaway if she escaped, authorities said. The girl was forced into more domestic work, and she took beatings -- at least once with a rod -- when she resisted, court records state.

One night, a drunken Soe raped her and then forced her to have sex almost daily after that attack, eventually impregnating the victim, authorities allege. The pregnancy since has ended, the FBI said.
