GARY | A Valparaiso woman was arrested early Thursday morning after falling asleep in her car on the Borman Expressway.

Brandi Goldman, 20, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and operating a vehicle with a controlled substance, according to Indiana State Police.

Traffic was stopped on eastbound Interstate 80/94 at the 10.8-mile marker for sporadic, 20-minute lane closures during the early morning hours for the demolition of the Colorado Street bridge and movement of heavy equipment.

At 1:09 a.m., after reopening the eastbound lanes, Trooper Josue Roa reportedly found Goldman unconscious behind the wheel of her 1997 Saturn in the middle lane of the expressway. Roa tried unsuccessfully to revive Goldman and called for an ambulance.

While waiting for the ambulance and attempting to identify the driver, Roa reportedly found two small bags of suspected marijuana in Goldman's purse, as well as some pills identified as a controlled substance.

Goldman was taken to Northlake Methodist Hospital in Gary, where she reportedly tested positive for the presence of a controlled substance and marijuana. She was later taken to the Lake County Jail.
