CROWN POINT

Board to consider day care in woman's home

The Crown Point Board of Zoning Appeals will consider a petition tonight for special use to allow Joan Fossey to run a child day care in her home on West 95th Avenue.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. in the City Council chambers at 101 N. East St.

MERRILLVILLE

Fitness classes begin soon at Pruzin Center

The Merrillville Parks and Recreation Department is offering a four-week fitness program starting March 12 at the Pruzin Community Center, 5750 Tyler Place.

The class for children ages 4 to 8 will meet from 3:45 to 4:15 p.m. Wednesdays. The deadline to register is March 5.

The program costs $35 for residents and $40 for nonresidents.

CROWN POINT

School Board to make several commendations

The Crown Point School Board will meet at 7 tonight. There are several agenda items, including commendation awards.

The School Board is expected to commend Mary Ann Chapko, principal of Eisenhower Elementary School, and several others because the school was named an Indiana Four Star school.

Mike Hazen, Taft Middle School principal, will be commended for being the Indiana Association of School Principals Region I Middle School Principal of the Year and for the CASS, or Creating a Safe School program.

Steve Strayer, Crown Point High School varsity baseball coach will be commended as the District Baseball Coach of the Year.
