The South Central School Board accepted the tendered resignation of High School Athletic Director Kevin Hannon by a 4-1 vote at its Tuesday meeting.
"You've pretty much drug this person through the mud," softball coach Bill Fryar said. "The whole community understands what's happening."
Hannon was put on administrative leave for Oct. 17 for what Fryar said was an accusation of embezzlement of athletic department funds and was subsequently found to be innocent of any wrongdoing.
"He was accused and nobody wants to own up to it," Fryar said.
School board attorney William Kaminski said the board made no mention of embezzlement, advising them not to speak on the subject. He also said that the action was a resignation and not a buyout, as was suggested.
"I feel your pain," board president Dan Younggreen, who cast the dissenting vote, said. "All I can give is a statement at this time."
