INDIANAPOLIS | Indiana's Do Not Call law appears to have spared Hoosiers billions of unwanted telephone calls since 2002, Attorney General Steve Carter announced Tuesday.
"We believe that this law has preempted nearly 4.3 billion phone calls to the homes of Indiana citizens over the past seven years," Carter said. "We calculate that based upon the reduction of calls that citizens have reported to their homes."
A November mail survey by the attorney general's office found that 94 percent of Hoosiers reported receiving fewer telemarketing calls since joining the Do Not Call list.
Survey participants reported receiving about five calls a week. That's down from a dozen a week in an earlier survey that asked Hoosiers home many calls they received before joining the Do Not Call list
