KOUTS | Former Merrillville, Munster and Griffith teacher and coach Mike Megyesi will become Washington Township High School's assistant principal and athletic director in July.
The East Porter County School Corporation board approved Megyesi's hiring on a two-year contract on Monday. His salary will be set later, Superintendent Rod Gardin said.
Megyesi has been dean of students and junior varsity boys basketball coach at Griffith Middle School/High School for the past year. Since mid-year, he has also been acting assistant principal.
The previous year, he taught seventh grade social studies at Wilbur Wright Middle School in Munster. He served as assistant varsity football coach and freshman girls basketball coach at Munster High School during that time.
Megyesi started his career teaching social studies for three years at Merrillville High School. He was also assistant varsity football coach and freshman boys basketball coach at the school.
Megyesi, 28, is a 1999 graduate of Merrillville High School and has degrees from Indiana State University and Ball State University. He lives in Westville with his wife, Lindsey.
