Ever since high school a group of ladies has been getting together to keep up with each other and just see how they are doing and what their kids are up to.

The ladies have all known each other since 1951 and they were from Valparaiso and Wheeler.

"We basically get together and play cards and yack," said Jean Lipke of Union Township. Her grandson is Jeff Samardzija, the Valparaiso High School graduate who now plays baseball with the Chicago Cubs. "For our September get-together the ladies all walked in and surprised me by wearing Cubs jersey's with Jeff's name and number on the back."

Lipke said she loves keeping in touch with the ladies in the group.

"We have all gotten to know each other's children and now grandchildren," Lipke said. "It's good to keep up with each other's news."

The ladies basically knew each other from Wheeler High School or some of the ladies married some of the guys from Wheeler High. Most of them graduated in 1950.

"We are not an actual club that has meetings and agendas," Lipke said. "We just get together and have fun and catch up on things."
