GARAGE SALE | Crown Point

Crown Point Mom's Football Club will hold a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at 1516 W. 125th Court. There will clothing, a baby crib, toys, furniture and more. Monetary donations are welcome, with all proceeds going to the football program.

READ TO THE DOGS | Crown Point

Youngsters can Read to the Dogs from 2 to 3 p.m. today and July 17 and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. July 15, at the Crown Point Community Library, 214 S. Court St. Power Paws to Read members will bring their pets to the library for this read aloud program open to all.

GREEK TREATS | Merrillville

Using old-world recipes handed down from generation to generation, baklava, sweet breads, kolachki, koulourakia, finikia, and compehagi are just a few of the traditional Greek pastries that members of the SS. Helen and Constantine Cathedral's Philoptochos Society have been busy baking in preparation for the cathedral's Annual Greek Festival. The festival takes place July 11 to 13 at the SS. Helen and Constantine Greek Orthodox Cathedral complex, 8000 Madison St. A bake sale will be held in the lobby of the great hall and will feature a vast variety of homemade delicacies to please every palate. Festival hours are 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and July 13. Admission and parking are free.

POWER STEAM SHOW | Crown Point

South Lake Agricultural Historical Society Inc. presents its 24th Annual Antique Power Steam Show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 11, 12 and 13 at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 S. Court St. Operating steam engines, sawmills, threshing machines, balers and old farming tools, wagons, small engines, horse shoeing and early agricultural equipment are displayed. Antique cars and trucks, a Garden Tractor Pull and farm toy show are featured as well as a petting zoo and model railroad display. Entertainment, food and a flea market. John Deer tractors and Witte small engines are featured this year. Admission is $4 for adults and free for youths 15 and younger with an adult. Parking is free.

SINGLES DANCE | Hobart

A Good Time Charley singles dance will take place at 8 p.m. July 12 at Elks Lodge 1152, 3580 W. 61st Ave. Admission is $7. All singles are invited.

EVENT CANCELLED | Crown Point

Due to a lack of registrants, the Crown Point Parks and Recreation Department is cancelling the Skate Park Competition scheduled for July 12. Instead, the Skate Park will be open regular hours of noon to 8 p.m. at 1313 E. North St.

LINCOLN HIGHWAY | Merrillville

Join the Indiana Chapter of the Lincoln Highway Association for an interesting lecture about the "Main Street of America," the Lincoln Highway, at 1 p.m. July 12 at the Lake County Public Library, 1919 W. U.S. 30. Meet author Cynthia Ogorek, who has written "The Lincoln Highway Around Chicago." Refreshments will be served.

SABA SABA | Gary

Simmons Family Council and Institute of Youth Community Programming host their 23rd annual Saba Saba (seventh month seventh day) community picnic from noon to 5 p.mm. July 12 at Tolleston Park shelter 1, 2700 W. 15th Ave. Children and Adults of all ages are encouraged to attend. It's a potluck-style picnic, and each person is asked to bring a meat dish, vegetable dish, dessert or a nonalcoholic drink to serve at least 10 people. A personal best contest will be offered to different ages. The donation for the contest is $3 per child. Adults must be with children up to 15 years old. Register in advance.

Gary SouthShore RailCat baseball team owner/CEO Patrick A. Salvi will be the guest speaker at the monthly membership luncheon of the Gary Chamber of Commerce, set for noon July 14 at the Genesis Convention Center, One Genesis Center Plaza. Open to the public, the cost is $17 in advance and $20 at the door.
