HOBART | A 15-year-old Hobart girl was beaten so severely during a fight with another girl Wednesday she had to be airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Illinois, police said Thursday.

The Hobart High School student, whom police declined to name because she is a juvenile, received numerous injuries as a result of the fight with the other teen.

A spokeswoman for the hospital declined to give a condition update on the Hobart teenager because she is a juvenile.

The fight involving the two girls occurred outside of Lake George Shrimp in the 400 block of East Third Street shortly after 11 a.m., police Lt. Steve Houck said.

Edwin Gonzalez, the owner of Lake George Shrimp, said the teens had been asked to go outside by one of his employees after they started a verbal altercation inside the restaurant.

Houck said police later arrested at Third and Ellendale streets the 15-year-old girl believed responsible for the beating. It's expected she will be charged with a Class C felony battery through the Lake County Juvenile Court, he said.

"That's due to the extent of the injuries," Houck said.
