PURDUE | West Lafayette, Ind.

Klimentina Markoski, a sophomore prepharmacy major from Crown Point, has been elected to the Purdue Student Union Board of Directors for 2009. Elected by her peers, advisers and Purdue Memorial Union director, Markoski serves as director of fine arts, and will offer suggestions related to the management of the Union as well as organize on-campus events.

Brienne Coates, of Hobart, has accepted membership in Golden Key International Honour Society and was honored during a recent induction ceremony at DePaul University. "Our members are inspired and motivated not only to achieve exceptional academic accomplishments, but also to make a positive impact on our world through the Society's commitment to service," said Golden Key's chief executive officer John W. Mitchell. Golden Key has more than 1.7 million members and more than 360 chapters, providing academic recognition to top performing college and university students as well as scholarships and awards, career and internship opportunities, networking, service and leadership development opportunities. Golden Key membership is by invitation only, to students in all fields of study.

DEPAUL | Chicago

Ryan Kokesh, of Chesterton, has been named to the autumn quarter dean's list at DePaul University. To receive the recommendation, full-time students must earn a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or above on a 4.0 scale.

Kokesh, a junior in the College of Computing and Digital Media's Combined Degree Program, is currently interning at Roundarch, a specialized consultancy focused on providing portal, content management and integration solutions. His parents are Leslie and Rich Kokesh, of Chesterton.

University of Findlay | Findlay, Ohio

The University of Findlay has awarded merit scholarships and endowed scholarships for the 2008-09 academic year. Faith Kappas, of Cedar Lake and a pharmacy major, received the Mary Alice Foster McDaniel '35 Scholarship.

Indiana State | Terre Haute, Ind.

Indiana State University has announced its dean's list for the fall semester. In order to be on the list, students must earn a grade-point average of 3.75 on a 4.0 scale.

Area students making the dean's list include: Michael Ponziano, of Cedar Lake; Joseph Herald, Amanda Lieberman, Cassi Linko, Stephanie Poulos, David Santelik, Melisa Spisak and Patrick Spohr, all of Crown Point; Michael Baum, of Dyer; Wilson Henderson and Tabitha Morales, both of East Chicago; Asia Smith and Tramaine Williams, both of Gary; Megan Barta and Demarcus Sneed, both of Hammond; Natalie Fritz and Daniel Moser, both of Highland; Bethany Baker and Jennifer Perez, both of Hobart; Chad Fedler, Zachary Modjeski, Sidney Schuttrow and Ann Vassar, all of Lowell; Corinne Nordin and Jack Renzo, both of Schererville; and Robert Dubar of St. John.

Porter County students on the dean's list were Agatha Chojnacki, Colin Hammar and Ryan Krepp, all of Chesterton; Jessica Boer, Michael Brunsman and Benjamin DeLaCruz, all of Portage; and Alisha Polite and David Walters, both of Valparaiso.

VU | Valparaiso

Valparaiso University students Nicholas Adams, of Crown Point; and Sam Grossnickle and Angela Logan, both of Valparaiso; are currently residing in the Kade-Duesenberg German House and Cultural Center on campus. The house provides an immersive language experience to complement students' German language coursework. Residents speak only German while living in the house and share meal planning and preparation on weekday evenings. Adams is a sophomore German and secondary education major and is the son of Earl and Marisia Adams. Grossnickle is a junior German major and is the son of Paul and Michelle Grossnickle. Logan is a senior psychology major and is the daughter of Gary and Marsha Logan.
