WINFIELD | Winfield has hired a new zoning administrator/building coordinator effective Feb. 21.

Barbara Kortokrax, of Crown Point, will begin Wednesday at a salary of $40,000 per year, town officials said.

Kortokrax previously worked for Cedar Lake, where she spent 17 years and held a variety of positions, most recently as director of planning, zoning and building departments.

Kortokrax also was the deputy town manager for Cedar Lake for about a year after Tim Brown left to become the town manager in Merrillville.

Cedar Lake Town Council President Bob Carnahan said Kortokrax has been a dedicated employee and has completed every task asked of her.

"We appreciated her work. Anytime I have asked her to do something, she's done it. I wish her the best in her new endeavors," he said.

Kortokrax said Wednesday she's excited about coming to work for Winfield and to be part of the growth there.

Kortokrax joins Winfield office manager Heidi Kendall, who began her job in January.
