Man found with blood streaming from his wrist
PORTAGE TOWNSHIP | A 45-year-old woman was taken into custody on charges of attacking and severely injuring a man with a butcher knife.
William Hertaus, 54, of 64 Rushing Water Drive, told police he was attempting to stop Anita Klemmeck, of the same address, from driving away in his car when the attack occurred shortly before 9 p.m. Monday.
Hertaus said he reached into the car and broke the key off in the ignition. After attempting to retrieve the broken key, Hertaus said he stepped to the rear of the vehicle, where Klemmeck began swinging the knife at him.
When police arrived, they found large pools of blood both near the car and outside a nearby home on Rushing Water Drive where Hertaus was sitting.
"I observed blood to be running in a continuous stream from his right wrist onto the sidewalk," a police officer reported.
Hertaus was taken to the hospital where he required staples and sutures, and was told he would need to have surgery to repair is wrist.
Klemmeck, who told police Hertaus came after her with a knife, was taken into custody on misdemeanor and felony battery charges.
Police said they had been to the same address a short time earlier in response to another attack on Hertaus by Klemmeck.
