Valparaiso resident turns 77 on 07-07-07
VALPARAISO | For John Angyus, the number seven is very lucky this year. Angyus turn 77 today, the same day the calendar reads 07-07-07.
To celebrate, his family is taking a trip for a length of, what else, but seven days.
"People keep telling me I should go to the boats and bet, but I'm not a gambler," said Angyus.
Instead, Angyus, a retired tool and die maker, millwright, and shop teacher at Valparaiso High School, will bring in the lucky day with a family trip to northern Wisconsin and hopes luck is on his side as he spends the week fishing.
"I've always enjoyed fishing and plan to do a lot of it up there," said Angyus who talked of taking his five children fishing many times as they grew up.
"We all had a lot of good talks on the boats while fishing. Right now I'm starting to get all of my equipment ready," he said.
The unique calendar occurrence has prompted many special events around the country, such as weddings and parties. But this extraordinary day happens to be Angyus's 77th birthday, so family rallied to celebrate.
Angyus's daughter planned the family outing for the special day. The five children will come from their residences around the country to visit with their father and mother, along with Angyus's nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He said his family originally planned an Alaskan cruise for his birthday, but instead decided on a lodge on the Chain of Lakes in Wisconsin so all the family could attend.
Angyus said the family is close and celebrating with his loved ones is the best jackpot of all.
"My wife Delores and I have been married since 1952, and we measure our success by how much our kids love one another and they are all very close," he said.
