SKILLS TRAINING | Valparaiso
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills training is a two-day suicide first aid interactive workshop for community caregivers hosted by Family Concern Counseling. Due to the nature of the training, attendance all day for both days is required. The class meets from 9 a.m..m March 6 and 7 at Family Concern Counseling, 2505 Valley Drive. BALLROOM DANCE | Valparaiso
The Valparaiso Parks Department has partnered with United Dance Arts of Valparaiso to offer new adult ballroom dance classes. Beginner will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, March 12 through April 9 at the United Dance Arts of Valparaiso studio, 55 Morthland Drive. Fee is $120 for couples and $78 for singles.

St. Iakovos Greek Orthodox Church will hold a winter Greek Festival from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. March 1. Enjoy home-made, mouth-watering Souvlaki (shishkabob), Loukaniko (sausage), Pasticho, Spanakopita, Tiropita, Greek Salad, Avgolemono soup, Baklava and many more pastries.

Y-Me of Porter County will meet at 10 a.m. March 1 at the Porter Education Building, 1401 Calumet Ave. There will be open discussion. The mission of Y-Me is that no one should face breast cancer alone. The public is invited. There is no fee to attend.

KP DUTY | Chesterton
Keep Praying Duty, also known as KP Duty, will hold a community prayer meeting at 6:30 p.m. March 3 in the food court at Liberty Bible Church, 824 N. Calumet Ave. The group meets on the first Monday of every other month to pray for members of the United States military and those who love them. Child care is available by appointment.

Nominations for Outstanding Teacher, Scholar and Service Awards for Purdue University Calumet faculty members are sought by March 3. Outstanding Teacher Awards recognize Purdue Calumet faculty who demonstrate superior ability in helping students meet course objectives, stimulate their desire to master course objectives, exhibit competence in their discipline, and aid and motivate students in a counseling and advisory capacity. Outstanding Scholar Awards honor faculty who show superior achievement in a creative endeavor, in the development of new knowledge in their discipline, or in scholarly or creative work that affects students. Outstanding Service Awards recognize outstanding professional and community service and outreach activity. Professional service includes belonging to an organization and especially serving as an officer. Likewise, community service involves volunteer service on boards of directors or agencies or direct service to clients. Outreach typically involves
extending the influence of the university through continuing education, off-campus courses or consulting.

CASINO NIGHT | Chesterton
State Park Little League will hold a Casino Night from 6 p.m. to midnight March 8 at the Chesterton Moose Lodge, 602 Broadway. Charity gamblers will play for fun and prizes and also have an opportunity to buy into a poker tournament for cash prizes. Tickets are $40 and include dinner, unlimited gambling chips and an entry into several prize drawings. Tickets for the poker tournament buy-in are $100. Drink tickets will be available for purchase during the evening event. Only 200 tickets will be sold for the event. Organizers are accepting donations of prizes. Proceeds from the event will go toward the league's planned expansion that will provide additional parking and a third ball field.

GARAGE SALE | Boone Grove
Space is still available for the second annual family garage sale and more, set for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 15 at Boone Grove High School. Rent a 10-foot space for $20. Bring own tables or rent from the school for an additional $10 each. A variety of food and baked goods will also be available for purchase. Proveeds will benefit Boone Grove Middle School.
