MERRILLVILLE | The annual Abuelo's Restaurant fundraiser supporting the Merrillville Noon Kiwanis Club dictionary fund will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Members of the community can participate by dining at Abuelo's, 8255 Georgia St., from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and telling their server they are there to support the Kiwanis club. Twenty percent of the proceeds from the patron's bill will go to Merrillville Noon Kiwanis Club.

"It's good that we have businesses in the community willing to help our organization and our cause," said Kiwanis Club President Barb Koby. "It's a great event. You get to eat good food for a good cause."

This is the second year Abuelo's has participated in the fundraiser.

Proceeds help the club purchase dictionaries for all third graders in the Merrillville Community School Corporation, and at Aquinas Catholic School and Laurel School.

Along with benefitting the students, added Koby, the project helps Kiwanis Club members across Northwest Indiana build fellowship with one another. "All of the area clubs come out for this event," Koby said. "It really promotes camaraderie."
