SPECIAL NEEDS PARTY | Schererville
Schererville Parks Department will have a Halloween party for individuals with special needs and their families from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 25 at Redar Park, Austin Avenue at Gregory Street.There will be a costume party, scary trail, games, pumpkin contest, music and Halloween stories by the campfire. Attendees should come in costume and bring a decorated pumpkin. Cost is $4 per person. Register at the Schererville Clerk Treasurer's Office or by phone.

KARATE CLASSES | Crown Point
Crown Point Parks and Recreation Department and Homann Karate Do offer karate classes for children ages 3 to 8 on Tuesdays, from Oct. 21 through Nov. 11, at the Crown Point Civic Center, 101 S. East St. Crouching tigers for kids ages 3 and 4 meets from 5:30 to 6 p.m., and Hidden Dragons for kids ages 5 to 8 meets from 6:10 to 7 p.m. Children learn self-defense skills as well as patience, focus, respect, honor, kindness and perseverance. Cost is $42 for residents and $57 for nonresidents. Register by Oct. 17.

RUN FOR ROSES | Schererville
Campagna Academy's fourth annual Run for the Roses is set for Oct. 25 at 7403 Cline Ave. The race is a 5K Run/2.5 Mile Walk & .25 Mile Kids' Fun Run that helps raise funds for the therapeutic and educational needs of at-risk adolescents at Campagna. On site registration is from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. The kids' fun run will begin at 8:30 and both the run and walk begin promptly at 9. YOUTH COMMISSION | Crown Point
Youth Sports Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 in the city Council Chambers at City Hall, 101 N. East St. ABW representative will attend to present the preliminary design for the Sportsplex.

CAR WASH & FLEA MARKET | Merrillville
Teens of Merrillville are sponsoring a car wash from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and an indoor craft/flea market/rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Andrew Parish Hall, 801 W. 73rd Ave., Merrillville. Cost is $5 per car and $7 for trucks and vans. The cost is $10 per table space for anyone that would like to sell crafts, art, antiques, tools, and other treasures. Food, baked goods and refreshments will be available in the cafe. Set up for booths is 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 17. Donated items in clean and working condition are being accepted the until 6 p.m. Friday. Baked goods are especially appreciated.

BOOK JOURNEY | DeMotte
Children in kindergarten through grade 6 are invited to an After School journey in pursuit of Oliver K. Woodman, the main character in this month's Books to Bridge the Region children's selection, 'The Journey of Oliver K. Woodman' by Darcy Pattison. PUMPKIN PATCH | Cedar Lake
Youngsters 10 to 16 can express their creative side by painting and carving two pumpkins - one for their own home and one to decorate a Pumpkin Patch at the Cedar Lake Town Complex from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Cedar Lake Parks and Recreation Department, 7408 Constitution Ave. All supplies will be provided. Pizza will be served. Cost is $5.

NOT SO SCARY GOLF | Cedar Lake
Play Not So Scary Mini Golf from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Oct. 31, with extended weekend hours until 9 p.m. Oct. 17, 18, 24 and 15, at the Lake County Parks and Recreation Department's Cedar Creek Family Golf Center, 10483 W. 109th Ave. There is a spooky atmosphere, but not too spooky for youngsters who are not fond of the dark. Bring the little princesses and pirates dressed in costumes of their choice and they will receive a special treat. Cost is $5.50 for adults and $4.50 for children 12 and younger. No registration is required.
