HAMMOND | FBI agents are working with Hammond and Chicago police on the Tuesday morning triple shooting at Carlson Oxbow Park, which left one man dead and a 13-year-old boy in critical condition.

A man wounded in the attack described being abducted at gunpoint on Chicago's Northwest Side and driven in the trunk of his own car with the other two victims to Hammond's far south side, where they were forced to kneel and then were shot.

"Investigators are looking for connections between the suspects and the victims," Hammond Police Chief Brian Miller said. "The federal agents' assistance is greatly appreciated."

Police are looking for the man's stolen car, a green 2000 Ford Taurus sedan with an Illinois license plate number X146641, which its owner said he last saw being driven away from Oxbow Park with two men inside.

Anyone who sees the Taurus should call 911, wherever the sighting occurs, said Lt. Michael Jorden, Hammond police spokesman.

The wounded man told police that he, his girlfriend's son, and a mechanic friend went to an auto parts store about 9 p.m. Monday in Chicago's Kelvyn Park neighborhood.

On their way, the group got into some sort of altercation with two men in a white or light-colored van, the man said. The men tied their wrists and forced them into the trunk of the Taurus.

Alejandro Sanchez-Ayvar, 36, of the 2200 block of North Kostner Avenue in Chicago, was pronounced dead of multiple gunshot wounds at 3:15 a.m. in the Oxbow parking lot, and the boy was taken to an area hospital.

The wounded man, whose head was only grazed by a bullet, told police that he played dead until he was sure his attackers were gone, and then walked to a nearby strip club for help.

Hammond detectives investigating the kidnapping and shooting can be reached at (219) 852-2971.
