Educator of Distinction | Lansing
Fred Seibel, a math teacher at Thornton Fractional South High School, has been selected as a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction by The National Society of High School Scholars. He was nominated by student Ashley Smith for outstanding dedication and commitment to excellence in teaching. The award recognizes teachers who have made a lasting difference in their classrooms by encouraging students to strive for excellence.
Student society members can nominate the one educator who has made the most significant contribution to their academic career.
Seibel was also named to Who's Who Among American Teachers and received a certificate of appreciation as Favorite Teacher of the Year 2007.
Summer enrichment | Calumet City
Thornton Township will offer a free summer enrichment program from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, June 18 to Aug. 9. It is for ages 10 to 13. Registration is required.

First Comes Love | Riverdale
First Comes Love is a program designed to help ages 13 to 18 build the skills they need to navigate their romantic lives. Teens will learn communication and problem-solving skills, how to deal with and avoid abusive relationships, how to differentiate between infatuation and love, how to build a stable relationship and characteristics of successful marriages. The workshops will be held at the Thornton Township Youth Committee, 14323 Halsted Ave.

Golf classic | Chicago
De La Salle Institute will host its annual Endowment Golf Classic on June 27 at Gleneagles Country Club, 13070 McCarthy Road in Lemont. The day begins with registration and continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Dinner, a cocktail reception and awards ceremony will follow the round of golf. All proceeds will support the Scholarship Endowment Program at De La Salle.
