Dick Gephardt, a former Democratic majority leader of the U.S. House of Representatives during the 1990s, is coming to Northwest Indiana on Friday to support Hillary Clinton.
As Indiana enters the final four days before its potentially pivotal primary election, the candidates and supporters of Hillary and her Democratic opponent Barack Obama have been canvassing the region with personal visits to get out the vote.
Barack Obama is scheduled to visit an as-yet undisclosed location in the region on Friday. Hillary Clinton has made multiple stops on four separate swings through the region in four weeks.
Former President Bill Clinton told supporters during a rally in Whiting on Thursday that if Indiana delivers a "loud and clear and unambiguous" victory, his wife could capture the party's nomination. Clinton will return to the region on Saturday, with a visit to LaPorte High School at 5:30 p.m.
On Friday, Gephardt will make stops in Hammond and Portage to discuss Hillary Clinton's economic plans. Gephardt and Hammond Mayor Tom McDurmott will hold an economic roundtable, time and location to be announced soon. Gephardt is then scheduled for a "Standing Up for Jobs" conversation at 5 p.m. at the Sheetmetal Workers Union Hall, 6450 AmeriPlex Drive in Portage.
