POOL PARTY | Lake Station

TOUR DA FUN | Cedar Lake
Cedar Lake Parks and Recreation Department will host Indoor Track and Foolish Field Events from 9 a.m. to noon July 3 at Hanover Central High School, 10120 W. 133rd Ave., as their part of the Tour Da Fun, hosted by 12 park departments working together to offer free programs for men and women. Advance registration is required. Track events include: 3-lap walk race, 200 m, 100m, 50m. javelin (pool noodle) throw, disc (Frisbee) throw, and shot put (tennis ball). Ribbons will be awarded for first, second and third place. Carnival games include Pick a Duck, Jenga, Paper Airplane Toss, Tailgate, Stack Cups, Pick a Sucker, Penny Toss and Knockout Cans. Play for raffle tickets to possibly win your choice of 1 of 5 baskets. Lunch will be served at noon at the Cedar Lake Town Hall, 7408 Constitution Ave. Cedar Lake Summerfest will be hosting additional Senior Games at 2 p.m. at the Park of the Red Cedars, 7408 Constitution Ave., including Peeling a Apple, Bean Spitting, Name that Tune, and
free bingo.

DUCK RACE | Lowell
Lowell Chamber of Commerce will host its ninth annual Great American Duck Race at 11 a.m. July 5 at the Evergreen Park pond, East Commercial Avenue and Joe Martin Road. Adopt a duck at the Lowell Chamber of Commerce office, 428 E. Commercial Ave., or DeMotte State Bank, just across the street from the park. This year an added attraction will be a dunk tank and those attending the race can try to dunk a local celebrity.

BREAKFAST BINGO | Crown Point
Adults can meet at 8:30 a.m. July 10 for a hearty breakfast and bingo at the Crown Point Civic Center, 101 S. East St. Crown Point Parks and Recreation Department will serve eggs, toast, sausage, milk, coffee and juice, followed by bingo games with prizes. Cost is $7 and deadline to register is July 3.

JEWELRY MAKING | Lake Station
Children in kindergarten and older will learn to make a bracelet with jewelry maker Lacey at 2 p.m. July 8 at the Lake County Public Library's Lake Station-New Chicago branch, 2007 Central Ave. Each participant will make one for themselves. Call to register.

GOLF LESSONS | Cedar Lake
Junior golf lessons will be offered to ages 6 to 17 this summer at the Lake County Park and Recreation Department's Cedar Creek Family Golf Center, 10483 W. 109th Ave. Cost is $75 for five, one-hour classes from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. July 7-11 or July 21-25. Junior golfers will learn the fundamentals of basic grip, stance, and club usage. Practicing drives, iron shots, and chipping and putting will implement this. Bring clubs, balls and water bottles. Registration and payment is required in advance.

TODDLER TIME | Wheatfield
Toddler Time for 2-year-olds, with a caregiver, will be held from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Mondays, July 7 to 28, at the Wheatfield Library, 350 S. CRITTER CAMP | Munster
Humane Society Calumet Area offers Critter Camp at the shelter, 412 45th St. The weeklong camps - set for 9 a.m. to noon July 7 to 11 and Aug. 11 to 15 - are aimed at providing a safe, fun, hands-on environment where children 8 to 12 can learn about aspects of animal care, career opportunities in animal welfare and build a sense of respect and responsibility for animals and life. Registration is limited. The fee is $90, which includes crafts, a camp T-shirt, group photo and daily snack. Register in advance.

CAR CRUISES | Crown Point
City of Crown Point hosts Car Cruises from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays through September around the Courthouse Square downtown. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. and the public is invited to stroll the square and visit with owners while checking out the vintage and classic vehicles and listening to oldies music played at the courthouse. Some merchants stay open late and refreshments are available to purchase.

MILE RUN | Highland
The 25th annual Citizens Financial Bank Mile Run on July 3 kicks off Highland's Twilight Independence Day parade. It's a one-mile run through the streets of town for all ages. All participants receive a T-shirt. Entry forms are at the Parks and Recreation Department office at Lincoln Center, 2450 Lincoln St. Race-day registration begins at 5:30 p.m. at Kennedy Avenue and 40th Street. The race starts at 6:30 p.m. at Kennedy and 40th Place. Registration is $6 until July 2 and $9 on race day.

MOVIE BREAK | Hobart
Children in kindergarten through grade 3 will cool off on a hot summer afternoon with an entertaining modern fairy tale movie screening at 2 p.m. July 3 at the Lake County Public Library's Hobart branch, 100 N. ART IN THE PARK | Crown Point
Crown Point Parks and Recreation Department offers Art in the Park, an art class for children 5 to 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Aug. 12 at Sauerman Woods Park, 1000 E. South St. Each week the young artists will be drawing, painting, cutting and/or pasting to develop their own works of art. All supplies are included. Fee is $5 per class for residents and $10 for nonresidents. Registration deadline is the Friday prior to each class.

READ TO THE DOGS | Crown Point
Youngsters can Read to the Dogs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays, July 8 and 15, and from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursdays, July 10 and 17, at the Crown Point Community Library, 214 S. Court St. Power Paws to Read members will bring their pets to the library for this read aloud program open to all.

DAY CAMP | Cedar Lake
Cedar Lake Parks and Recreation Department hosts a day camp program for ages 4 to 15 on various weeks throughout the summer at the Park of the Red Cedars, 7408 Constitution Ave. Ages 4 and 5 meet from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, July 28 to Aug. 1; cost is $25 per week. Ages 6 to 10 meet from 9 a.m. to noon for $25 per week and from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, July 7 to 11, July 14 to 18, July 21 to 25 and July 28 to Aug. 1, with optional field trips on for an additional $5 fee on Thursdays. Afternoon camp fee is $5 a day or $15 per week. Ages 11 to 15 meet as leaders for all six weeks, and there is no morning fee. Afternoon camp fee is $5 a day or $15 per week.

DISCOVERY SERIES | Hobart
Lake County Parks Department hosts its Historical Discovery Series for three age groups this summer at Deep River County Park, 9410 Old Lincoln Hwy. at County Line Road. Explorers, ages 3 and 4, meet at 11 a.m. Tuesdays through July 29, Pioneers, ages 5 and 6, meet at 11 a.m. Wednesdays through July 30, and Settlers, ages 7 and older, meet at 11 a.m. Thursdays through July 31. Topics are "Pan for Gold" on July 8-10, "Parachute Fun" on July 15-17, "Letterboxing" on July 22-24, and "Games & Toys" July 29-31. Fee is $1 for each child for each one-hour program, and no reservations are required. Caregivers must remain in the park and may be asked to assist. Program meets rain or shine. Meet in front of the Visitor Center.

YOUTH VOLLEYBALL | Dyer
A six-week volleyball program for 9- to 10-year-olds and 11- to 12-year-olds takes place July 7 to Aug. 11 on the grass courts of Northgate Park. Youths 9 and 10 years old meet from 5 to 6 p.m.; fee is $30 for residents and 435 for nonresidents. Youths 11 and 12 years old meet from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m.; the fee is $35 for residents and 440 for nonresidents. The program will cover the basics of volleyball including introduction of bumping, serving, setting and more. As time permits, students will get into scrimmages. Register by July 2.
