Historical Society | Calumet City
Calumet City Historical Society's current exhibit features artifacts, model cars, model trucks, model gasoline stations and photographs of gasoline stations along the original Route 66 from local citizens. It runs through January 2009. The museum, 760 Wentworth Ave. in Calumet City, is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursdays and by appointment. The society meets monthly and area residents are invited to become members.

Purple Heart | Hammond
The local chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart meets the second Thursday of the month at the Larson VFW, 5820 Hohman Ave. Chapter 721 invites all service men and women who have been awarded the Purple Heart for combat wounds to join its ranks.

Sweet adelines | Calumet area
The Calumet Corner Chorus Chapter of Sweet Adelines seeks ladies who love to sing. Sweet Adelines International promotes and preserves four-part harmony barbershop singing, a cappela style. The nonprofit worldwide organization is committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performances. Members are from various parts of Indiana and eastern Illinois. The chorus has many performances throughout the year, singing for organizations, banquets, special occasions and community events. The group rehearses at 7 p.m. Thursdays at the Christian Fellowship Church,605-165th St., Hammond. Guest are always welcome.
