Support group, classes aid cancer patients

MUNSTER | The Cancer Resource Centre offers free education programs and support groups for those with a cancer diagnosis and their families.

The center is at 900 Ridge Road, Suite J. Register for any educational or networking group by calling (219) 836-3349.

Yoga, for beginners or those more advance - 10 to 11 a.m. Monday and 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.

After Care Breast Cancer Support - 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday. Designed for women who have completed their breast cancer treatment.

Wellness Support Group - 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Provides an opportunity to share feelings, receive support and learn ways to cope with the experiences of having cancer. It's led by a professional.

Reiki - 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Aids the body in releasing stress and tension by creating deep relaxation and inner balance. A prescription from participants' physician is required prior to attending the session.

Look Good: Feel Better - 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday. For women undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation. Holli Zabek, an esthetician from Spa Pointe in Munster, will teach beauty techniques to help restore appearance and self-image during cancer treatment. Session will include skin, nail care and makeup advice. Klassic Wraps will present on how to work with scarves and head wraps. Seating is limited.

Chi Gong - 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday. It's the precursor of Tai Chi that fosters balance, energy, strength and flexibility.

Knit One: Nurture Too - 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday. Learn how to knit or crochet afghan squares, scarves or something simple to start. Yarn and needles provided, or bring your own.

Tai Chi - 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday. Classes emphasize balance, posture, breathing techniques, concentration and complete relaxation.
