CROWN POINT | Lake County prosecutors charged an East Chicago couple with confining a man naked inside a dog cage after sexually assaulting him May 2.

Miguel Angel Quinones, 32, of the 4800 block of Northcote Avenue, and his live-in girlfriend, Santos Rosa Santiago, 26, are charged with two counts each of criminal deviate conduct, criminal confinement, robbery, battery and auto theft.

The victim told officers that on May 2 he was drinking with Quinones when Quinones invited him up to his apartment for more drinks, court records state.

Once in the apartment, Quinones accused the man of "working with the police," according to Lake County criminal court records. Quinones ordered Santiago to lock the door while he hit the man over the head with a gun, the records state.

Quinones allegedly made the man strip naked, then sexually assaulted him with the handle of a toilet plunger Santiago provided. When the man tried to get away, Quinones gave Santiago a gun with orders to shoot the man if he moved, prosecutors allege.

Quinones beat the man with an electrical cord, then tied him up and put him inside a dog cage, court records state. The man told police he was tied to the cage in such a manner that "he could not go to sleep or lay down because if he passed out he would be choked by the extension cord."

Quinones sexually assaulted the man two more times throughout the night, prosecutors allege. Quinones told the man he would not let him go until the man gave him $10,000, court records state.

Quinones drove the man to get a Limited Edition Ford Mustang belonging to the victim out of storage. After Quinones took possession of the Mustang, he set the owner free, police said.
