Board, Town Council meet in study session

The Griffith School Board and the Town Council meet in a joint public study session at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Town Council chamber, 111 N. Broad St.

HAMMOND

Mayor's Night Out is on Thursday with McDermott

Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. hosts the Mayor's Night Out from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Kenwood Elementary School, 6416 Hohman Ave.

The mayor and several department heads will be on hand to answer questions in an open forum and will be available to discuss issues and concerns one-on-one.

Children's author hosts book signing at library

The East Chicago Public Library hosts local author Sylvia Joyner and her book signing from 2 to 5 p.m. April 5 at the Main Library, 2401 E. Columbus Drive.

Joyner has written several children's books and short stories.

ST. JOHN

Town hosts inaugural daddy/daughter dance

Registration is due April 1 for St. John's inaugural daddy/daughter dance, for girls ages 6 to 13.

The dance, themed "Puttin' on the Glitz," is from 5 to 9 p.m. April 12 at White Hawk Country Club, 1001 White Hawk Drive, Crown Point.

The cost is $35 per couple and $8 for each additional girl. Cost includes food, entertainment and a photo. The event is co-sponsored by Girl Scout Troop No. 192.

Evening attire is required.

Registration forms are available on the town Web site, www.stjohnin.com.

ST. JOHN

Residents required to register their dogs, cats

St. John residents have until March 31 to register their dogs and cats with the town. Town ordinance requires the animals to be licensed annually. People who did not register their pets in 2007 are in violation and don't have until the end of March to do so.

Registration costs $8 for pets that are spayed or neutered. Registration for dogs that are not spayed or neutered is $20, and the cost is $10 for cats that are not spayed or neutered.

Owners can register their pets at the clerk-treasurer's office. They need to bring proof of the animal's current rabies vaccination and proof the animal is spayed or neutered.

HAMMOND

FOP and teachers battle in basketball for charity

Tickets are on sale for next month's charity basketball game that pits the Hammond Police Department against the School City.

Three games starting at 5 p.m. April 4 at the Hammond Civic Center will have teams of police officers and teachers representing Hammond High School, Clark, Gavit and Morton competing to benefit high school athletic programs and the Fraternal Order of Police Christmas Food Baskets Drive.

Tickets are available at each school at a cost of $5 for all three games.

The event includes raffles, high school apparel giveaways, and DJ music.

HAMMOND

City Council to discuss $6 million judgment

The issuance of $6 million in judgment bonds related to the wrongful conviction case won by Larry Mayes are part of Monday's agenda when the City Council meets in regular session.

Meetings are proceeded by a public caucus at 7:30 p.m. in the council office conference room, followed by the regular meeting at 8 p.m. in council chambers.
