EASTER EGG HUNT | Portage

Portage Kiwanis Club will host the annual Breakfast with the Easter Bunny from 8 to 10 a.m. March 15 in the Oakwood Grand Hall at Woodland Park, 2100 Willowcreek Road. The cost for the all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast is $5 per adult and $3 for children 12 years and younger. Free photos with the Easter Bunny will be available.

The annual Portage parks department Easter Egg Hunt begins at 10 a.m. when youngsters 3 and 4 years old look for eggs. Children 5 and 6 years old will hunt at 10:15 a.m. Children 7 and 8 years old will have their turn to look for eggs at 10:30 a.m. Register by March 8 at the parks' office at Woodland Park. The egg hunt is free and will be held, rain or shine.

Children must bring their own baskets or bags for collecting the eggs. Signs will direct parents and youngsters to their hunt locations within Woodland Park.

FREE TAE KWON DO | Portage

Elite Martial Arts Academy, 5347B E U.S. 6, is offering two free tae kwon do classes starting at 1 a.m. and noon March 2. Classes are available for ages 5 to adult.

GYMNASTICS | Portage

The Portage Township YMCA offers a gymnastics program for all levels. Sessions run monthly, with the next session beginning the first week in March. Parent & Tot Gymnastics will meet from 12:40 to 1:15 p.m. Wednesdays or from 10:45 to 11:20 a.m. Thursdays at the YMCA, 3100 Willowcreek Road. The cost is $15 per month for YMCA members and $30 for nonmembers. Preschool Scooters will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays or from 11:40 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. Thursdays at the YMCA. The cost is $15 per month for YMCA members and $30 for nonmembers. Beginner classes will meet from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Willowcreek Middle School, 5962 Central Ave. The cost is $40 per month for YMCA members and $80 for nonmembers. Intermediate classes will meet from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Willowcreek Middle School. The cost will be $40 per month for YMCA members and $80 for nonmembers. SPAGHETTI DINNER | South Haven

Girl Scout Troop 416 will hold its first ever spaghetti dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. March 2 at the South Haven American Legion, 429 W. County Road 750 North. The girls are raising funds to purchase camping equipment for their troop. Tickets are $4 per person and can be purchased in advance or at the door.

FAMINE | Portage

Portage United Methodist Youth, the youth group at First United Methodist in Portage, will hold a 30-hour famine to raise money and awareness for world hunger. The group's goal is to raise $720, which will feed two children for a year. The famine begins at 5 p.m. March 7. The youths will drink water and juice only during the fast, which will last until 11 p.m. March 8. During that time, they will make tie-dye T-shirts and pillowcases, play board games and survivor games, and doing an in-house service project. They'll break their fast at 11 p.m. March 8 with a meal prepared for them by church members. The youth group is accepting tax-deductible donations. SOCCER DEADLINE EXTENDED | Portage

Registration for the Portage parks department's spring youth soccer league has been extended to March 7. The season begins May 3 at Imagination Glen Park, 2275 McCool Road, for the league for children 3 to 14 years old. The cost is $40 for residents and $45 for nonresidents. Register at the parks' office at Woodland Park, 2100 Willowcreek Road. Volunteer coaches are needed for the soccer league. Experience is not required. Training and a coaching clinic are available.

STORY TIME | Hobart

Children's Story Time for preschoolers is held at 10 a.m. every Saturday and Tuesday in February at Borders Books, 2060 Southlake Mall. Fun activities are also included.

KP DUTY | Chesterton

Keep Praying Duty, also known as KP Duty, will hold a community prayer meeting at 6:30 p.m. March 3 in the food court at Liberty Bible Church, 824 N. Calumet Ave. The group meets on the first Monday of every other month to pray for members of the United States military and those who love them. Child care is available by appointment.

MAPLE SYRUP TOURS | Hobart

Groups of fist-graders through adults can make reservations for the Maple Syrup Time program at Deep River County Park, 9410 Old Lincoln Hwy. Two-hour tours are available by appointment only at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, March 6 to 18. Program includes an outdoor component among the maple trees, a visit to the sugar shack to see the evaporator working, a stop in the Visitor Center to learn more about maple syrup and sample a taste, and a visit to the gift shop where syrup and souvenirs can be purchased. The cost is $1 per person, with a $20 minimum deposited to secure the reservation. Groups of as many as 120 people can be accommodated.

CHEERLEADING | Portage

Portage parks department has partnered with Young Champions to provide weekly cheerleading classes for boys and girls through June 9 in Oakwood Grand Hall at Woodland Park, 2100 Willowcreek Road. There will be no classes on March 24 and May 26. This class is for ages 4 to 15 years old and will include choreographed pompom and dance routines. Students also will learn cheers, chants, jumps, stunts, kicks and other skills required for school cheerleader tryouts. No experience is needed. Participants will perform at special events throughout the program. The cost is $7 per class. Register in advance.

CASINO NIGHT | Chesterton

State Park Little League will hold a Casino Night from 6 p.m. to midnight March 8 at the Chesterton Moose Lodge, 602 Broadway. Charity gamblers will play for fun and prizes and also have an opportunity to buy into a poker tournament for cash prizes. Tickets are $40 and include dinner, unlimited gambling chips and an entry into several prize drawings. Tickets for the poker tournament buy-in are $100. Drink tickets will be available for purchase during the evening event. Only 200 tickets will be sold for the event. Organizers are accepting donations of prizes. Proceeds from the event will go toward the league's planned expansion that will provide additional parking and a third ball field.

PARENTS' NIGHT OUT | Hobart

Lisa's Gymnastics will host a parents' night out event from 5 to 10 p.m. March 8 at the center, 679 Ind. 130. The cost is $15 for the first child, $25 for two children and $30 for three or more children. The evening will include a gymnastics class, open gym time, pizza, move and popcorn and board games. Lisa's Gymnastics also is accepting registration for dance classes and cheer tumbling at its Portage and Hobart locations.

'GODSPELL' | Valparaiso

First Christian Church will present "Godspell," the musical based on the Gospel of Matthew, at 10 a.m. and at 6 p.m. March 9 at the church, 1507 Glendale Blvd. In the production, Jesus is portrayed by three actors and actresses while the disciples are played by men, women and children. The sacrament of Holy Communion will be offered. A free-will offering will be collected during the service. There are no tickets and no reserved seats.

CHARITY FUNDRAISER | Valparaiso

Prevent Child Abuse of Porter County will have its annual charity ball fundraiser, the Spring Carnival Gala, beginning at 6:30 p.m. April 5 at Old Towne Center, 711 N. Calumet Ave. This charity ball will include carnival games, Wii games and casino games. Entertainer J Jay Brooks will emcee the event. Seating is limited. The cost is $50 per person. Reservations can be sent to Prevent Child Abuse of Porter County, P.O. Box 1846, Valparaiso, IN 46384-1846. The group is seeking donations for its silent auction.
