Cops seek man linked to several robberies
The Jasper County Sheriff's Department and local police are pursuing charges and attempting to locate an unnamed suspect in several robberies.
Police said the man robbed the Fisher's store at U.S. 231 and County Road 400 North on Feb. 29.
Two white men drove up to buy gas. The driver came in, pulled a small handgun and asked for money from the victim, police said.
The suspect is described as a white man, 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a fair complexion and blondish hair.
Police think that incident is connected to other armed robberies in North Judson and Westville. Police said they are searching for the man.
CROWN POINT
Nonprofit organizations must file tax exemptions
Nonprofit organizations must renew their property tax exempt status this year, said Sharon Fleming, of the Lake County assessor's office.
Fleming said churches don't have to refile unless they have added new land or buildings. Applications for exemptions can be obtained from in.gov/dlgf. Click on the "forms" link.
She said new organizations must have property deeds recorded in their name as of March 1. Anything recorded after that date must file after March 1, 2009.
Property owners can obtain additional information by calling the county assessor's office or going to its Web site.
