HOBART | A Hobart family returned from vacation to discover someone had been sleeping on their couch and eating their food, including hot dogs, cheese and soup, police said.

Theodore Walter Sayger, 45, of Hobart, who admitted to police he was that someone, has been accused of breaking into his neighbors' house while they were on a camping trip, police Lt. Steve Houck said.

Sayger was charged with burglary in Lake Superior Court on Tuesday.

The Hobart resident, who lives on Vine Court, told police detective Garrett Ciszewski that when she and her family returned on June 22 from vacation they observed their couch had been moved and there were stains on it as well as sheets.

The resident said a large bottle of a fruit drink was missing from her refrigerator and there were items in her house that didn't belong there, including tennis shoes, a lighter, a beer can and a silver touch light, according to court documents.

She said she believed her neighbor, Sayger, had been in her house because she recognized the tennis shoes and knew he carried such a light around with him because his power was out.

Sayger told police he entered his neighbors' house through the back double doors, which were unlocked.
