Veteran cop promoted to patrol division head
Veteran police Officer Kevin Trinosky was promoted to lieutenant, patrol division commander, effective Thursday, Police Chief Rod Gonzalez announced.
Trinosky, 44, had served as a patrol sergeant in the patrol division.
A lifetime resident of Hobart, Trinosky joined the Hobart Police Department in April 1989 following a stint with the U.S. Marine Corps.

Meetings changed due to Fourth of July holiday
The Lake Station Board of Works meeting scheduled for July 1 has been changed to 2 p.m. July 8 in the council chambers, 3625 Central Ave.
The Lake Station City Council meeting, which had been scheduled for July 3, also is being rescheduled to 7 p.m. July 7.

Cops: Man shoots gun to scare drunken driver
David E. Williams Jr., 31, of the 100 block of North Jackson Street, was arrested Tuesday after he drove his Jeep Cherokee through the front yard and picket fence of a Court Street home, police said.
Williams began to honk his horn when Joshua Elam came outside and fired three rounds from a handgun into the air in an attempt to scare Williams off, police reports state.
When police arrived, they discovered Williams had a blood alcohol concentration of .14. He said he was at the home in an attempt to get his estranged wife to sign paperwork, police reports state.
Williams was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, driving while suspended with a prior conviction and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of a least .08 but less than .15.
Elam was issued a citation for discharging a firearm in city limits.
