LAUGHTER YOGA | Hobart

A Laughter Yoga class will be offered from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 23 at St. Mary Medical Center, 1500 S. Lake Park Ave. The classroom is accessible from the west, main patient tower entrance. Learn about a new revolution in body/mind medicine that combines laughter and yoga breathing. Laughter yoga enhances health and improves the circulatory system. Call to register for this free class.

WALK AT SCHOOL | Lowell

The fieldhouse track at Lowell High School, 2051 E. Commercial Ave., is available from 6:15 to 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, when school is in session, for Tri-Creek residents interested in walking for exercise. Park in a visitors' space in the north parking lot and enter through Door 20. Bring walking shoes to change into (wet shoes are not permitted on the track), and provide an ID and complete a walker's permit with the assigned attendant. If the attendant is not available, a sign will be posted cancelling the activity.

COED VOLLEYBALL | Crown Point

An adult, coed volleyball league will be hosted from 5 to 8 p.m. Sundays, starting Feb. 10, at the Southlake YMCA, 1450 S. Court St. Fee is $250 per team. Register Jan. 21 through Feb. 7.

EASY MEDITATION | Merrillville

Titled "Weight Management, There Are So Many Ways To Do It," the discussion will include strategies such as exercise, calorie reduction, fat intake reduction, low-carb diets, diet pills and shakes, and surgeries. EXERCISE PLAN | Merrillville

"How To Develop A Realistic Weight Goal And Exercise Plan" will be the topic of a discussion led by Miriam Asya, RN, at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Lake County Public Library, 1919 W. U.S. 30. Asya will provide a plan on how to figure out what is the desirable weight using BMI and waist to hip ratio charts and discuss how much exercise is needed, strategies to include exercise in your day, and community resources for staying fit. HEALTHY WEIGHT LOSS | Cedar Lake

Learn about weight loss and the use of vitamins, nutraceuticals, natural foods, food supplements, and diet medications at 2 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Lake County Public Library's Cedar Lake branch, 10010 W. 133rd Ave. Bryan Mumaugh, Doctor of Pharmacy at Methodist Hospitals, will discuss these and other concerns about healthy and effective methods of losing weight in this free program for adults.

COMPULSIVE EATERS | DeMotte

Overeaters Anonymous is a fellowship of people who share the common problem of compulsive overeating. A special Public Information Night will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 29 in the Upstairs Conference Room at Oak Grove Christian Retirement Village, 221 W. Division Road. All are welcome. This is a great opportunity for compulsive eaters, friends or family of compulsive eaters, and professionals who are in contact with compulsive eaters, to learn about OA and how it can help compulsive eaters. A panel of three speakers will share their own experiences with the 12-step program as well as answer questions. There will also be literature and resources available for more in-depth information about OA. OA has no dues or membership fees. There are about 15 weekly meetings held throughout Northwest Indiana, including DeMotte.

WALKING CLUB | Crown Point

Crown Point Parks and Recreation Department is offering an indoor walking club to help residents stay fit during the winter months. Purchase a punch card for 10 visits for $20 or 20 visits for $40 and use it to walk around the indoor track from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays at Crown Point Health & Fitness Center, 1516 N. PLAY DODGEBALL | Lowell

Youngsters can burn off some energy this winter by playing dodgeball weekly with the Lowell Parks and Recreation Department in the gym at the Tri-Creek School Corporation Administrative Center, 195 W. Oakley Ave. Cost is $1 per session for the continuing development of Freedom Park. Sessions will be held for first- through third-graders from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 21 and Feb. 11, 18 and 26 and 5 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 29 and Feb. 6. Sessions will be held for fourth- and fifth-graders from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 23 and Feb. 14, 19 and 28, and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 29 and Feb. 6. A parent or responsible party must sign children in and out and leave a phone number.
