BAND CONCERT | Lake Station

A Winter Band Concert will be performed at 7 p.m. March 5 at Edison Junior-Senior High School, 3304 Parkside Ave. The band department is under the direction of James Wasmundt and Bridget Fine. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students.

FLOWER SHOW TRIP | Crown Point

Friends of the Crown Point Community Library will sponsor a bus trip to the Indianapolis Flower & Patio Show on March 12. Boarding time is 7:45 a.m., departure is at 8 a.m. and return departure is at 2 p.m. Cost is $30 with admission to show; payment is due at registration. No refunds after March 5. Register at circulation desk. Registered participants may enter a drawing, taking place on the bus, for two tickets to the Crown Point Garden Walk on June 28-29

FAUX FINISHES | Merrillville

Merrillville Adult Education is offering a Faux Finishes Course from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 8 at the Merrillville High School Senior Citizen Center, 276 E. 68th Place. Join this hands-on class learning how to mix and apply latex glazing liquids to achieve depth and many decorative paint finishes. Use these techniques on any paintable surface including walls, furniture, floors or even crafts. Upon completion of this class, students will leave with a portfolio of 10 of the most requested decorative paint finishes and written instructions for future reference. Course fee is $45, with a $35 material fee payable to the instructor. Registration is required.

SPAGHETTI DINNER | Crown Point

Boy Scout Troop 48 is hosting its first spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. March 8 at First United Methodist Church, 352 S Main St. Cost is $6 for adults, $4 for children/seniors and $20 for a family. Proceeds and donations will go to maintain and add to Troop 48 Scouting programs.

EASTER TEA | Shelby

The ladies ministry of the Gospel Lighthouse invites ladies in the area to an Easter tea at 2 p.m. March 8. Food, fellowship and tea are invited. The speaker will be Betty Tetzlaff, who will perform a new Easter song.

MODEL RAILROADS | Crown Point

St. Matthias Men's Club hosts a Model Railroad Show and Swap Meet from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 9 at St. Matthias Church Hall, 101 Burrell Drive, just west of Crown Point High School. HO, N, G, Lionel, Thomas the Train and model railroading items will be featured, with Lionel Model Train and Thomas the Tank Engine layouts. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children. Refreshments will be available.

SNACK AND PLAN | Cedar Lake

Members of the Teen Advisory Board, and those wishing to join, will eat, play games and plan future youth programs at 5 p.m. March 3 at the Lake County Public Library's Cedar Lake branch, 13330 Parrish Ave. Participants will earn volunteer time for attending. Register.

BUNCO PARTY | Hebron

A bunco party will be held at 1 p.m. March 9 at Range Line Presbyterian Church, 18095 Clay St. (turn north from Ind. 2 onto Clay St. one mile east of Interstate 65). Prizes, share the pot, door prizes, refreshments, ample parking and smoke-free. Hall is handicapped accessible. Cost is $10.

MONEY MATTERS | Gary

Recognizing the importance of financial education and the need for these classes in Spanish, the Calumet District Hispanic Ministry Committee has partnered with Centier Bank to schedule its first class. The free FDIC seminar offered in Spanish is titled Money Matters How to Keep Track of Your Money, at 9 a.m. March 15 at Marquette Park United Methodist Church, 215 N. Grand Blvd. The class, taught by Alfonso Avila, Centier Bank senior investment executive, will explain that one of the first steps to financial security is planning and following through on a personal budget. Refreshments will be served. Registration (also in Spanish) is preferred by March 5.

STORY TIME | St. John

Preschoolers 3 to 5 years old can join in story hours at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays, March 4 through 19, at the Lake County Public Library's St. John branch, 9450 Wicker Ave. Youths will enjoy a variety of stories, musical activities and crafts during the last three weeks of the story hour series. The featured book for March for readers participating in the online book discussion hosted by the Lake County Public Library is "The Thin Woman" by Dorothy Cannell. This debut novel in the Ellie Haskell mystery series remains one of Cannell's most popular books, even after two decades.
