CROWN POINT | Local government is making it easier for Hub City businesses to implement workplace recycling, as Mayor David Uran announced that the City of Crown Point will provide local businesses with free Workplace Recycling Start-Up Kits beginning Wednesday.

The city introduced the "Win-Win Workplace Recycling" program to help Crown Point businesses develop affordable and convenient workplace recycling programs. "The City of Crown Point is committed to helping local businesses identify affordable recycling programs. Providing businesses with an initial supply of workplace recycling containers is an innovative strategy to expand recycling within Crown Point," Uran said.

The Start-Up Kits include five desk side recycling containers and one, 18-gallon central recycling container with a lid.

The city is sending out an informational newsletter to all Crown Point businesses containing the Workplace Recycling Plan Form, which follows the Lake County Solid Waste Management District's business recycling guidelines, that allows them to receive the free kits which are completely grant funded.

The Lake County Solid Waste Management District is requiring cities and towns to expand workplace recycling to reduce the amount of trash sent to landfills.

"The city has secured the first 200 kits and plans to order more based on overall response," said recycling co-coordinator Diana Bosse.

Interested businesses submitting a completed Workplace Recycling Plan can go to the Geisen building at 109 N. East St., on the scheduled dates and receive their Start-Up Kit. Downloadable forms are also available to Crown Point businesses at www.crownpoint.in.gov.

For more information on the recycling program, call the mayor's office at (219) 662-3240.
