Blood drive | Lansing

Heartland Blood Centers will hold a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Baker's Square, 3545 Ridge Road. As a thank you, all blood donors who donate at one of Heartland's mobile blood drives or center location between June 1 and Aug. 31 will be given a coupon for a free quart of Oberweis Ice Cream. Appointments can be scheduled at the register. Donors must be at least 17 years old or 16 with written parental permission; weigh at least 110 pounds; be symptom free of cold, flu and allergies; and be in general good health. Donors who have traveled outside the United States within the past 12 months should contact Heartland.

Hawaiian luau | Chicago

The Called & Gifted Lay Ministry is hosting a Hawaiian luau from 6 to 11 p.m. tonight at St. Kevin Church Hall, 10509 S. Torrence Ave. There will be food, games, dancing, raffles and more. Advance tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for kids. Tickets purchased at the door will cost an additional $2.

Trivia Nite Out | Calumet City

Trivia Nite Out begins at 7:30 tonight at St. Victor Parish, 553 Hirsch Ave. Teams of three to six players can vie for cash prizes by answering questions on all subjects. Bring snacks or purchase tacos and beverages. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Summer Fest | Chicago Heights

Prairie State College will host a summer fest for community residents from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today in parking lot A on the college's main campus, 202 S. Halsted St. Admission is free. Attendees can play games, view a car show, enjoy music from a DJ, and shop craft and food vendors. In addition, representatives from PSC's admissions, career development services, and English as a second language offices will be available to answer questions about the college and its services. The event is co-sponsored by Hispanic Empowerment Chicago Heights Organization.

Explore | Cook County

Biodiversity Day of Exploration is today at Beaubien Woods Forest Preserve. Become a Biodiversity Explorer for a day and be led by scientists and local experts in exploring the variety of plants and animals found in this area. The free event is open to families with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. and activities from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Southeast Environmental Task Force. Guides will lead attendees as they search for different insect, bird, amphibian and trees species. Look through binoculars to spot birds, watch a scientist collect insects, come face to face with a frog and salamander and identify native tree species. Bring a bag lunch, dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.

SummerFest | Calumet City

St. Andrew the Apostle Parish will hold its 35th annual SummerFest today and June 22 on the church grounds, 768 Lincoln Ave. Today's activities run from 6 to 11 p.m. with music provided by Acme Musical DJ. Festivities resume from 3 to 10 p.m. Sunday with All Mixed Up and New Phaze. Bring a lawn chair to enjoy the traditional Polka entertainment. Food items available include Polish sausage and kraut, pierogis, "walking" tacos, Italian sausage, hot dogs, homemade desserts and beverages. Activities and games for children and adults will take place both days. Also returning this year will be Vanguard Wrestling of Lansing with live pro-wrestling on from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Folk music | Park Forest

Celebrate the summer solstice by listening to folk music at Thorn Creek Nature Center from 2 to 5 p.m. today. Local performers will donate their musical talents in this benefit for Thorn Creek Nature Center. Tickets are now available. They cost $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Sports heroes | South Holland

Flower Power | Calumet City

Vivienne Porter will present Mastering Google's Picasa at 6:30 p.m. June 24 at Dolton Public Library, 14037 Lincoln Ave. Picasa is a free downloadable program to help organize, edit and store photos as well as print, share and export them to be printed. Register for this free seminar.

RailCats game | Lansing, Gary

Members of First United Methodist Church are sponsoring a picnic and baseball game at the Gary RailCats stadium in Gary. They have reserved 40 tickets for July 13. The tickets are $23 each. A picnic is from 12:30 p.m. until the game starts at 2 p.m. The picnic consists of hamburgers, hot dogs, various salads, condiments, cookies and beverages. The deadline is June 30.

ALZHEIMER'S SUPPORT | Munster

SCAVENGER HUNT | Valparaiso

American Veterans Motorcycle Riders Association Chapter 9 sponsors a scavenger hunt to help veterans June 29 starting at VFW Post 988 on Roosevelt Road. Signup is 11 a.m. to noon, and the cost is $10 per person. The event is open to people of all ages. Motorcycles, cars and trucks are welcome. Bring a camera - cell phone cameras work as well - and a bag to carry items found. All items and papers must be turned in by 4 p.m. to the post. An all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner will be served at the post for $5.

MARKET CANCELED | Dyer

The Dyer Farmer's Market has been canceled for the 2008 season because not enough commitments were received from a "farmer" type of vendor. The fall edition of the Parks and Recreation Department's Leisuregram, which comes out mid-August, will offer more details about the farmer's market and potential options.

YARD SALE | Hobart

St. Sava Serbian Sisters Circle will host a community yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at St. Sava Church, 9191 Mississippi St., behind Westfield Southlake Mall. Rain date is June 28.

KIDS BIKE PARADE | St. John

Junior Women's Club of St. John sponsors its annual kids bike parade to celebrate Independence Day. The parade starts with check-in at 9:30 a.m. June 28 at Prairie West Park, west 93rd Avenue and west Oakridge Drive. Participation is free. Entries may be decorated bikes, strollers, wagons, roller blades and even children. Treats and fun in the park follow. Register.
