Judy and Larry Alders know times are rough and they want to assist people.

They heard about a group matching people who need help with those who can give it.

So the Alders contacted a group in Fort Wayne called Neighborlink and the Alders have now established a Web site in Porter County.

People can go to http://www.neighborlinkpc.org and post assistance they need and people can also go to the site to see if they can assist.

"Basically the Web site matches people in need with people who can help," said Judy Alders, who lives in Chesterton.

"My husband and I have been thinking about doing something like this for a long time. We had helped with Sharefest at our church and this is something like that but on a more permanent basis."

The Alders launched the Web site in October.

"We want to help those who can't help themselves. They may be elderly or maybe they are low income."

The Alders stress there is no guarantee the work will get done but they can always post their needs.

Judy Alders hopes the Web site thrives and they get more volunteers.

"We saw a need for this type of help in the area and we felt it was something we could continue throughout the year," Alders said. "We started brainstorming and we feel we can do this all year long, unlike Sharefest which is just once a year."

The group takes donations and is seeking more volunteers.

People can go to the Web site and see what they are good at and volunteer to help with a certain project.

Neighborlink Porter County has completed 12 projects so far.

Aside from the Web site, people can call (219) 617-2077 for more information.
