HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP | E.C.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund will hold a town hall meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. March 5 at Central High School, 1100 W. Columbus Drive. The meeting will the Hispanic community navigate through the complexities of preparing for college, paying for college and applying for scholarships. The session is free and open to the public. Founded in 1975 as a not-for-profit organization, the fund's vision is to strengthen the country by advancing college education among Hispanic Americans. In its 32-year history, the fund has awarded more than 82,000 scholarships worth more than $221 million to Hispanic students attending nearly 2,000 colleges and universities in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

PARTNER WITH DOCTORS | Highland

A program titled Partnering With Your Doctor will be presented at 2 p.m. March 2 at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 2201 Azalea St. The free workshop is designed for everyone but is especially beneficial for people experiencing memory loss and their care partners. Attendees can learn what questions to ask and how to get the most out of doctors' office visits. The workshop will demonstrate how to prepare for doctor visits, reduce stress and communicate information accurately and effectively. It's hosted by the church in cooperation with the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Indiana. Reservations are required.

SILVER CELEBRATION | Hammond

The Hammond Education Foundation invites the public to its Silver Celebration, a fundraising event to commemorate 25 years of supporting learning experiences for Hammond Public Schools. Silver Celebration takes place March 6 at the Towle Theater, 5202 Hohman Ave. Socializing is at 6 p.m. with "The Musical of Musicals: The Musical" presented at 7 p.m. Tickets are $45 each. Seating is limited.

SAFETY VILLAGE | Schererville

Tri-Town Safety Village has a benefit night March 7 at Villa Cesare, 900 Eagle Ridge Drive. Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m., food is served 6 to 7 p.m. and games begin at 7 p.m. A Texas hold 'em tournament and crazy bunco party will be offered. The tournament includes food, beer, pop and tip board and costs $50 per ticket. Those who register today will receive $250 in additional chips. Fifty percent of all ticket profits will be paid in prizes. Buybacks are available. The bunco party inclues food and beverages, as well as prizes. Cost is $20 per ticket. Make a reservation for either game.

FLOWER SHOW | Whiting

Whiting Parks Department offers a trip March 13 to the flower show at the Donald E. Stevens Convention Center. Advance registration is required. Fee for bus and entrance is $30, which must be paid at registration. Seats on the bus are limited. Participants will leave at 8:30 a.m. from the Community Center, 1938 Clark St., and return about 2:30 p.m.

FISH FRY | Highland

Indiana Harbor Masonic Lodge 686's 31st annual fish fry is set for 4 to 7 p.m. March 8 at the lodge, 2234 Martha St. The all-you-can-eat dinners cost $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger.

CRIMINAL'S CORNER | St. John

A talk on Peter Lovesey's "Diamond Dust" is set for 10:15 a.m. March 11 at the Lake County Public Library's St. John branch, 9450 Wicker Ave. In the book, Detective Detective Peter Diamond is on the trail of a murderer who is trying to kill the wives of policemen in general, and his wife, specifically. Copies of the book will be available for checkout at the circulation desk. Register in advance.

DAY OF PRAYER | Hammond

Church Women United of Greater Hammond sponsor a local prayer service for World Day of Prayer from noon to 2 p.m. March 7 at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 9540 Fifth St., followed by a fellowship tea. The theme, "God's Wisdom Provides new Understandings," developed by women of Guyana, expresses the awesomeness of God's creation and what we can learn from it. Men and women of all faiths are invited. World Day of Prayer is an ecumenical movement in 170 countries and regions whose prayers follow the sun across the globe the first Friday in March. It's been observed in the United States since 1927.
