Man charged with battery after children play prank

A 47-year-old Schererville man has been charged with battery after allegedly punching a 13-year-old boy in the lower abdomen when the teen rang the man's doorbell and ran off, according to police.

Paul Jacobs, of 8809 Clark Place, was charged with the Class A misdemeanor and was released after paying a $500 bond, Schererville Sgt. Joe Gasiorek said.

The incident was reported at 10:04 p.m. Sunday in the 4900 block of West 86th Place. Neighborhood kids were playing "Ding Dong Ditch," and the man was angry when he was a victim, Gasiorek said.

The "game" involves ringing a person's doorbell and running away without getting caught.
