ST. JOHN | St. John is positioned to grow by 540 acres in the next few months.

No one objected to the plan during a public hearing at Thursday's Town Council meeting.

The annexation area includes farmland and about 200 homes, most of which are in the Tiburon and Grouse Point subdivisions. It would incorporate the vicinity of Cline and 93rd avenues, stretching down to 101st Avenue along Blaine Street. The town already provides water and sewer utilities to most of those residents.

During the public comment portion of the public hearing, a representative from the Tiburon Homeowner's Association requested a meeting with town officials about the possibility of the town taking over common areas, such as a park and two detention ponds.

Town Manager Steve Kil agreed to meet and discuss what it would cost St. John to do so.

If the annexation goes through, the residents would receive primary service from St. John for police and fire calls, as well as public works for snow removal.

The town doesn't plan to hire any new people to cover the additional acreage, Town Council President Michael Fryzel said.

St. John anticipated that the area eventually would be incorporated and staffed its departments accordingly, Town Council Vice President Jerri Teibel said. The annexation could be finalized by December or January, officials said.

The council also continued a public hearing from July 31 regarding an annexation on the west side of town.

Owners of five parcels of land at the northeast and southeast corners of the intersection of Calumet and 101st avenues have submitted voluntary annexation petitions to the town of St. John.

The land totals about 173 acres. One of the parcels is a working farm. The other four contain homes.
